Description

This unit is designed to provide workers with the skills and knowledge to safely measure overhead conductor heights using insulated telescopic measuring sticks. It covers hazards, safe-approach requirements, correct stick selection, inspection, and safe measurement techniques. Learners develop the ability to assess risks, maintain electrical safety clearances, and accurately record conductor height measurements in accordance with workplace and electrical safety procedures.

Prerequisites

UETDRMP002 ESI Safety rules for work on, near or in the vicinity of electrical apparatus

Course aim

On completion, learners will have the knowledge and skills to measure low and/or high voltage conductor heights using a telescopic measuring stick.

Target learner group

Persons whose task involves the use of insulated sticks as measuring devices on, or in the vicinity of, high and/or low voltage network subject to Network Operator approval.

Learning activities

Delivery mode

  • Face-to-face led training
  • Theory assessment

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • Describe the function, roles and responsibilities required of a worker measuring conductor height using a telescopic stick.
  • Identify electrical apparatus, equipment and voltages within the Victorian Electrical Distribution System.
  • Identify techniques for the safe use of Telescopic Sticks in relation to measuring the height of conductors.
  • Demonstrate the safe use of Telescopic Sticks in relation to measuring the height of conductors.
  • Identify the traffic management requirements for short term work.

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.
  • Direct observation and practical assessment.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:
  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training. (especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety helmet, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, safety glasses and insulated gloves.
