Description

This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to work in accordance with the (VESI) Safety Framework, including understanding safety obligations, identifying and managing workplace hazards, applying safe work practices and procedures, and ensuring compliance with industry safety requirements across field activities.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Course aim

On completion, learners will have the knowledge and skills to understand the purpose and intention of the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Act and associated legislations and regulations key principles of environmental management.

Target learner group

For persons who are required to work on, near or in the vicinity of the electricity network assets

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • State the basic legal requirements of the OH&S Act.
  • Identify the importance of compliance with relevant Legislation, Regulations and VESI codes of practices relating to OH&S.
  • Identify the requirements of performing a job safety assessment (JSA) to determine possible workplace hazards and assigning appropriate risk control measures.
  • Demonstrate the requirements for reporting accidents and incidents as required by the Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), WorkSafe Victoria and within the workplace.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the regulatory requirements for the prevention of falls in the workplace.
  • Identify the hazards and regulations associated with handling material containing asbestos fibre.

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:

  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training. (especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.
