Description

This course provides lineworkers with the skills to safely perform approved rigging tasks on overhead electrical networks under the VESI rigging-exemption scheme, including safe use of rigging equipment, load control and working near live infrastructure.

Prerequisites

VESl Lineworkers but has prerequisites that are completed as part of the CERT III apprenticeship: UETDRIS007 – Install and maintain distribution overhead cables and conductors UETDRIS012 – Install and maintain poles, structures, and hardware.

Course aim

On completion, learners will have the knowledge and skills to perform rigging tasks under a recognised rigging work licence conditions.

For qualified or apprentice lineworkers in the electricity supply industry.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • VLR Module 8 – Structural Steel Erection and Powered Winch Operation
    Rigging for installing, new or replacement electricity supply steel crossarms and setting up and operating a powered winch to lift a transformer in the Victorian Electricity Supply Industry.
  • VLR Module 9 – Demolition
    Demolition of overhead powerline infrastructure.
  • VLR Module 10 – Guyed Structures.
    Erecting, dismantling and maintaining stays / guys for distribution electrical structures

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.
  • Direct observation and practical assessment.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:

  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training. (especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety helmet, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, safety glasses and insulated gloves.
