Description

This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to work in accordance with the VESI Environmental Framework, including understanding environmental responsibilities, identifying environmental risks, and applying the required controls and procedures to minimise environmental impact during field activities.

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Course aim

On completion, learners will have the underpinning knowledge and skills to understand key principles of environmental management.

For persons who are required to work on, near or in the vicinity of the electricity network assets

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • Explain the basic legal requirements of Environmental Legislation.
  • Explain the importance of an environmental management system (EMS) and the basic elements of the system.
  • Explain the basic principles of managing air emissions.
  • Identify the basic principles of the containment of contaminated water.
  • Explain the basic principles of waste management
  • Describe how to manage, store and handle chemicals including spills and disposal of clean up materials
  • Identify the basic principles of flora and fauna protection
  • Identify the basic principles of weeds and diseases management
  • Identify the basic principles of cultural heritage and site management
  • Identify the basic principles of noise and vibration site management

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:

  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training. (especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.
