Description

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to interpret requirements from the Blue Book and Green Book, identify the correct approach distances for people, vehicles, mobile plant and elevating work platforms (EWP), and understand when SAD Special applies and what controls are required.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Course aim

On completion, learners will be able to apply the knowledge and skills to maintain safe approach distances (SAD) to high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus.

Target learner group

Persons required to work or operating Vehicles or Mobile Plant, on or near Electrical Apparatus.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • Identify the requirements for the Safe Approach to Electrical Apparatus within the Victorian Electrical Supply Industry
  • Identify the SAD for persons working on or near HV and LV electrical apparatus and the safe use of vehicles or mobile plant
  • Identify the requirements for SAD special

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:

  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training. (especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.
