Description

This unit provides the skills and knowledge to safely enter enclosures containing high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical apparatus following the Blue Book and Green Book principles. It covers identifying HV and LV equipment, understanding safe approach distances (SAD) for personnel, vehicles, and plant, applying safe work practices, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and following site procedures and emergency protocols.

Prerequisites

UETDREL005 Work safely near live electrical apparatus

Course aim

On completion, learners will have the knowledge and skills to understand the procedures to be observed when entering enclosures containing High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) apparatus.

Target learner group

For persons who are not otherwise authorised who are required to enter enclosures containing HV / LV apparatus.

Learning activities

Delivery mode

  • Face-to-face led training
  • Theory assessment

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this unit, a learner should be able to:

  • Identify the requirements of the electrical distribution and transmission system and features of simple electrical circuitry.
  • Identify the requirements for entry into enclosures within the Victorian Electrical Supply Industry.
  • Identify the safe approach distances (SAD) for persons entering enclosures containing LV and HV apparatus.
  • Identify safe work practices, general precautions and hazards that need to be observed whilst within an LV and HV environment.

Assessment approach

Learners are assessed using the following methods

  • Theory and written assessments.
  • Direct observation and practical assessment.

Course entry requirements

Learners in this course are required:
  • To have basic literacy and numeracy skills so learners can understand the theory and assessments.
  • Hold the current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • Be sufficiently fit to participate in training.(especially if there are physical elements or field-work context)

Accreditation status

On successful completion of this course, learners will receive a completion certificate.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety helmet, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, safety glasses and insulated gloves.
